DDBAC is a non-oxidizing, broad-spectrum biocide. Its antimicrobial action stems from its cationic nature:

The positively charged quaternary ammonium head group adsorbs onto the negatively charged cell membranes of bacteria, fungi, and algae.

This adsorption disrupts the phospholipid bilayer, causing leakage of intracellular components and subsequent cell lysis and death.

The long dodecyl (C12) hydrophobic tail enhances its ability to penetrate lipid-rich membranes, making it particularly effective against Gram-positive bacteria, while also showing good efficacy against Gram-negative strains, yeasts, and molds.
